Viper Island
Viper Island, near Port Blair, has some pretty dark history. Back in the British days, they used it as a jail, so it’s a big part of the story of India’s fight for freedom. Today, you can walk around the old jail ruins and check out the scenery. It’s a mix of history and nature.
It’s a small, quiet island – a good escape from the city. The rocky shore and bright water make for great photos, and history buffs dig this place. You’ll find signs that tell you all about the island’s past and the tough times prisoners went through back then.
You can get to Viper Island on a quick ferry from Port Blair, so it’s an easy trip. Walking through the ruins kind of gives you a feel for what it was like back in the day, and the scenery makes you think.
All in all, Viper Island is part learning, part exploring. If you’re into history, or just want to see something different, this place is worth a visit.
